The Refugee Highway reflects the vast size of the refugee challenge
to the Christian Church in Europe and beyond. Geographically broad,
spanning the globe, the refugee highway is a story of human need
requiring a coordinated response. The Refugee Highway is also broad in
the scope of issues and challenges, ranging from the physical and
spiritual needs of the individual refugees to separation of families
and emotional trauma, to challenging governments with the legal
treatment and resettlement of refugees.
History of the Partnership
The Refugee Highway Initiative arose from the acute need for
coordination of ministries involved in such a complex and vast ministry
field. The Refugee Highway Initiative, with the support of the World
Evangelical Alliance, supporting churches, and refugee ministries, has
now completed a two-year process of consultation with the evangelical
refugee ministry community. This process has culminated in the
formation in 2002 of the global Refugee Highway Partnership, a twenty-member Facilitation Team, and a seven-member Core Administrative Team.
Hosted as a network of the World Evangelical Alliance Missions
Commission, it is the only global network serving the coordination and
resource-sharing needs of evangelical refugee ministries and churches.
In Europe, the Refugee Highway seeks to network and inspire ministries
to the growing number of refugees crossing European borders.
